Manchester City and Liverpool both booked their place in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup with away wins on Tuesday.
It was City's first win at Arsenal in all competitions since the 1975-76 season when they won the League Cup.
Andy Carroll missed a penalty in the first half for Liverpool but Kenny Dalglish's side recovered to beat the Blues for the second time in 10 days.Two second-half goals from Maxi Rodriguez and Martin Kelly saw Liverpool win 2-0 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Sergio Aguero scored a late goal as City edged out Arsenal to go through to the last four.
Arsenal had their chances before substitute Aguero's goal in the 83rd minute to seal victory for the Barclays Premier League leaders.


In Tuesday's other Carling Cup match, Blackburn lost 2-0 at Championship high-flyers Cardiff.
Manchester United host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Wednesday in the last of the quarter-final ties.
